If you haven't tried it yet, go to Sky and Telescopes interactive sky chart. In the U.S. or Canada, you can set your location by Zip code or Postal Code, in the rest of the world you can set city and country or you have a GPS device or a good map where you can read your latitude and longitude to really pinpoint your location. Then set the time and off you go. Press the Help button for complete instuctions. It's one of the best Java applets I've seen served up on the web for public use. Enjoy and learn.
