"No one realized that the book and the labyrinth were one and the same" -- Jorge Luis Borges - "The Garden of Forking Paths" A recent article in Scientific American on Quantum Computing revived my interest in this topic. Previously its close association with David Deutch's "multiverse theory" bothered me, a confirmed Popperian, but I'm willing to ignore the "multiverse theory" to read some quite interesting physics, especially the link between entropy and information. A recently published article in Nature described the first quantum mechanical Not gate. While one logic cicuit is a far cry from the millions in common CPU and memory circuits, the jump from 0 to 1 is a lot greater than from 1 to many.
